I think I'm pretty much eliminated by your premise, because my configuration is pretty minimal, but I'll chime in: just keep things simple. You can go crazy with hundreds of options and their combinations. Do something very minimal that works for you and then, if you find there's something else you'd need, start investigating how to do that.
