Hi there fellow mutters,

I've been running into an issue where mutt doesn't notify me of new
emails, but this only occurs when I have the internal pager open (when
viewing a message). For context, I use mutt with Maildir type mailboxes
(with mbsync fetching my emails with IMAP), with the $timeout option set
to 10 seconds.

When I don't have the pager open and I'm on the index, I get new mail
notifications within 10 seconds of mbsync fetching new emails from my
email provider. The issue is that I'll frequently forget to quit out of
the pager when viewing a message, in which case mutt no longer notifies
me that there are new unread messages.

I'm guessing that when I'm on the pager, the timeout doesn't expire
until I exit out of it, after which I get the new mail notification—if
there are any—immediately.

Is this the expected behavior, or is this a bug?

I've also tried to check for any options that might control this
behavior by going through the doc, but haven't been able to find
a relevant one, except for the $timeout option.
