Well, I guess this is my time to shamelessly advertise. I wrote a
program/script called Mutterer that helps with that. See:

    https://github.com/mwnx/mutterer

It's made with a mutt - offlineimap - msmtp setup in mind, but it can be
adapted to other setups. Specifically, you can just use the mutt part of the
configuration.
