Have you checked for a local file named Archive?

Indeed, there is a local file named Archive! So that's where they've
been going. So, I got it to work by prefixing everything with INBOX:

macro index,pager y "<save-message>=INBOX.Archive<enter><enter>"
"Archive"

I admit I don't fully get what is going on here. I don't know what this
magical "INBOX" is or how mutt knows that it means store it on the imap
server. I don't know what a spoolfile is or what mailboxes is (mine is
=INBOX). Oh, and I don't know why so much configuration is prefixed by
=.

It isn't "INBOX", it is "=". This is shorthand for the value of $folder:

 http://www.mutt.org/doc/devel/manual.html#folder

Pretty much all your references to you normal folder (IMAP in your case) should commence with an "=".

The leading "INBOX." may just be some convention for your particular IMAP server - try leaving it off. I confess I don't understand why many IMAP services put Archive and Sent etc "inside" the INBOX. Happy to learn some background on this.

I think that is why I like rec.moto; regular posters here have developed
virtual asbestos underwear and it takes a really hot flaming statement, as
opposed to a humorous aside, to start the flame guns going. Well, oK, all
you have to say is "guns" or "constitution" or "Harley" and it starts a flame
war, but that stuff is easy to pick out and ignore ;-).
