I had in mind The Little Brother's Database (lbdb), but it has been several years since I considered using a database, so I do not know what is available today. A search on "mutt address book" reveals at least three data bases which interface directly with Mutt. And with the aid of a script, it may be possible to use a stand-alone database such as Postgress.
