Not sure what *you* mean by "accidentally", but pressing the wrong
key(s) is one way.
Yes, that's what I meant. Is there such a key? I couldn't find one.
Well, not a single key (unless you've defined a dangerous macro).
But if you tag every message ("T.<enter>") and then accidentally run a
<tag-prefix><delete> that would do it. For example, I run with auto_tag=yes, so
tagging everything and just hitting <delete> might do it to me, as I wouldn't
have to use <tag-prefix> (";") first.
I colour deleted messages in dark blue (and my terminal has a black background)
so that at least makes such accidents visually obvious.
Aside: if your other scenario held (marking things as "read") would not the
missing messages appear in another folder?
