This section of the manual also says "If no match is found the message
will be saved to $record mailbox." -- so I wonder if it would be easier
to get things working to set $record to be "=Sent" and skip that
wildcard-only fcc-hook line.

(Also, I noticed that in the example hook given in that section, the
backslash character in the regexp was itself backslashed... though off
hand I don't see how that alone would explain the behavior you [Mike]
are currently seeing.)
