I read the manual again, you are right! I'm not sure from the OP's description when he sees the cur, new, and tmp directories. I tried navigating to a maildir outside of my regular mailstore from the change-folder dialog, mutt correctly recognises it is a maildir and shows the messages instead of the directory structure. -- Suvayu Open source is the future.
