Thank you for all your suggestions. The closest I get is the first character displaying as red but only with elinks -dump-color-mode 1. If this setting is set to any of the higher values then the foreground and background of the *all* text is set to grey (unreadable therefore). I guess the first char highlighted is a good enough solution. -- Eric Smith
