This too, you can do, as long as you have enough space in your home
directory to fit all the compiled code.  You can download Mutt and
compile it in your home directory, and install it in something like
$HOME/bin.  I have done this several times when I was forced to use
machines where I did not have root access.

If you want to do that, download the source, unpack it, and run

  $ ./configure --help

This will give you a list of Mutt's compile-time configuration
options, which will include options to control where mutt gets
installed.
