Thanks for the tip. This did it for me in the end: charset-hook ^us-ascii$ cp1252 charset-hook ^iso-8859-1$ cp1252 set assumed_charset="cp1252" The problem was not my locale, which was set correctly, but that the messages did not specify a charset. Regards Jeff
