Ah! Beautiful; I had no idea <quote-char> existed. Dang, I should read functions.h more closely. Thanks very much, Alain. > Well, as the <Space> key is bound to <buffy-cycle>, it would be >quite difficult to call a function when first at prompt, and print >a literal space otherwise. And anyway users may still want to ><buffy-cycle> even after having typed something else. People happen to >change their minds. Meh. I think it is more expected that you'll have to jump through hoops when you change your mind than that you'd have to jump through hoops just to open up a folder whose name you know ahead of time. It's equivalent to having bound "m" to the <buffy-cycle> function; the only difference is that many Unix folk have gotten into the habit of avoiding the use of spaces in file names (because so many scripts are badly written), and so the problem with the default binding is ignored because "ahh, shaddup, just stop using spaces" is such an easier answer. >But changing the default of such a well-established binding >as <Space> to <buffy-cycle>, that would be an annoyance bigger than the >occasional necessity to ^V. Yeah... And I've bound <buffy-cycle> to ^N in my mutt so it doesn't bother me, it's just that I wish previous poor interface decisions could be revisited (I understand why they cannot). ~Kyle - -- It was luxuries like air conditioning that brought down the Roman Empire.
