As I understand it it *has* to exist somewhere before the mail reaches the individuals each of whom actually receives the mail. Thus you need to receive this acknowledgement from somewhere that deals with the mail *before* it ever gets delivered to the individuals' MUAs, so the requirement cannot be fulfilled by mutt.
