try the "help" command - bound to '?' by default.

mutt show this command in the "mini help" line on the screen:

  q:Quit  d:Del  u:Undel  s:Save  m:Mail  r:Reply  g:Group ?:Help

i use the comma and sometimes the
hash mark as a macro lead-in.
the dot is a good choice, too.
the backslash is not taken, either.
