For anyone following this, the problem was indeed on my end. I have an updated patch, available from http://descolada.dartmouth.edu/mutt/patch-1.5.1-ow.smime-encrypt-self.2 for anyone interested. Omen -- Too much of a good thing is WONDERFUL.
