Ispell is usually called with parameters to specify the dictionary to use. I guess that the commands you want to use are simply scripts calling ispell with the correct parameter. Btw, how do you want to call your spelling checker? The key 'i' is by default bound to ispell and you changed it to something just setting ispell.
