ok - good!

I suppose you are using a non-bourne
shell as EXECSHELL, are you?
it might be /bin/sh on your system -
but it is probably linked to bash?

so my question is - have you tried
accessing PPID with /bin/sh on a
system which uses *the* Bounce Shell?
