That is what I have done and it seems to work fine except for one area. If I go back to Kmail, Kmail produces a lot of index files in the mail directory. If there is a item in the index that is not in the mail file, Kmail will get a touch flaky. Deleting the index files and making Kmail rebuild them solves the problem.
