Procmail is pretty verbose, but you don't have to deal with it directly. I use this: http://freshmeat.net/projects/cats2procmailrc/ to read list of simple one line rules for filing and write a procmailrc from that. Maintenance is: hack rules, rerun cats2procmailrc.
