Wow, I knew maildir was slower but not by that much.  I guess it has to
do with reading each individual file instead of scanning the mbox.

I've been considering converting back to mbox but havn't come up with
anything justifiable.

Procmail should just have (The trailing slash specifies maildir):
foo/
