I've had a look at limit and can't see how it can help.
In other words, I see no avenue there ...


I've had a different idea. But it's a no way :
tag all mails that you want to keep
this could be done by :
tag-pattern ~U | ~d<8d

this is not complet because some thread are partially tagged but you
want to keep the full thread.

Then my idea was to apply tag-thread to all tagged mails but it seems to
not work :

;<esc>t

but this tag only the current thread (; is ignored).

I'm looking for another avenue.
