If you are using pop3 check out mailfilter, you should find it on sourceforge. You have to specify the mails you do not want to recieve (using regexp's) and those mails will be deleted on the server before you download them to your machine. There is also an option to run it in test mode before you go fully *online* with it so you know which mails will be deleted.
