or better yet, it's a popup entry in XFree86 xterm.
I set my $TERM manually for one of these reasons:
a) the actual $TERM isn't propagated to the shell from where I'm
logged in.
b) to work around broken applications/libraries that can't handle
the terminfo.
c) testing...
