Download and use wvdial - it'll take care of all this

 If your ISP's nameservers dont restrict queries to their customers
 (their ip block, rather) you can stick with the same resolv.conf
 across ISPs.

In your fetchmailrc:

defaults
forcecr
poll pop.server1.com with proto pop3 no dns
user you with password foo
fetchall
