That is an issue for your local sendmail (or whatever MTA you run on
your desktop).

Set your desktop sendmail (or whatever) to smarthost through the relay
you specify.  In sendmail set the DS flag (DSyour.smarthost.name).

To automate this, see http://cork.linux.ie for a rather neat script (for
configuring sendmail on boxes behind lans / connected over dialups)

Or get yourself something like Masqmail / Nullmailer (search
freshmeat.net or elsewhere) if you dont want to run an MTA on your
desktop.
