I asked for exactly the same "prune" and "graft" functions a while
back, but didn't really get anywhere. Pruning is pretty easy; just use
'e'dit-message to get rid of the I-R-T: and Refs: headers, and it's a
new thread. Grafting (putting a message into a thread) is trickier,
but can be accomplished with 'e' and constructing your own I-R-T:
and Refs: headers. I'd very much like to have a function that lets me
attach a message underneath another using a simple browser interface,
just like attaching a message from within a mailbox. I'll have to wait
for someone else to code it for me, though :-)
