I apologize if this message is a bit off topic, the connection to Mutt
is that I discovered this problem when I was switching to using Emacs as
an editor in Mutt.
Like I mentioned above I have switched to using Emacs as an editor in
Mutt (Yes, I like Emacs. Sue me:-) The problem is that Emacs will not
let me type non-ASCII characters *if* I'm running it from within an
xterm or rxvt (something I often want to do when using Mutt.) Emacs will
gladly let me type these characters if I run it as a regular X
application or on the console. This does only seam to limit my ability
to type these characters, viewing them work even from within an xterm.
I have tried things like 'set-language-environment' in Emacs, and
setting it in 'Latin 1' mode, but that doesn't cure it. Inserting
non-ASCII characters in the xterm itself when not running Emacs works
just fine too, and if I run for an example 'vi' in an xterm it will let
me type these characters.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
