Procmail can fix it:

# Correct wrong sig-dashes
:0 fBw
* ^--$
| sed -e 's/^--$/-- /'

but that brings back the "problem"* that the space was trying to fix in the
first place.

* Not that I've ever seen that problem.  The lack of a space where there should
be one is far more common.
