The version number indicates which is the stable and which is the
developement version.  Versions with the second number being even are
stable, versions with the second number being odd are developement.

Thus, 1.1.x is the developement series, 1.0.x is the stable version.
When 1.2.0 comes out, it will be the "latest stable".  And after that,
the developement versions will be numbered 1.3.x.
