Yes, although I've been told that I (and at least half a dozen web
site maintainers) need to read an RFC before news support will be 100%
correct.

Read the muttzilla docs, specifically INSTALL, particularly the
paragraph which begins "If you wish to include news support..." You
will need to edit a .h file and recompile. Netscape made a really
stupid choice here, and I am stuck. Using autoconf would make this
easier, and although it isn't on the official TODO list, it is on my
mental to do list. (Somewhere well behind, "Complete MSc thesis.")
