I already had procmail installed on my machine, so it was simply a
matter of getting lots of friends' .procmailrcs (I'm amazed some of
them get -any- mail after reading them) and going through the
"Getting started with procmail" docs by Catherine A. Hampton at
http://www.hrweb.org/spambouncer/proctut.shtml
http://www.hrweb.org/spambouncer/procmail.rc
I took out everything to do with spambouncing, as I've been around
long enough to be on the receiving end of vacation programs gone
mad and mailing lists where two bounce messages collide and everything
goes bang, so I thought I'd leave that alone for now :)
The man pages for procmail are split up into procmail, procmailrc,
procmailex and formail.
The Procmail "Mini"-FAQ is most inappropriately named and must
be one of the longest FAQs around. Any reasonable search engine
(ie Google) will find it with a search of "procmail" and "faq".
I suppose I should be brave and mention that my current muttrc and
procmailrc are on the web at
http://roadrunner.swansea.linux.org.uk/~hobbit/muttrctest
http://roadrunner.swansea.linux.org.uk/~hobbit/procmailrctest
They should make sense when taken together. I added a lot of
comments about what each bit did. The idea was to keep things
simple, although I fear the muttrc fails at that. The procmailrc
is simple, as these things go...
