Perhaps.  It's a very big mess out there.  I've compared 8 different
xterm clones (xterm, rxvt, Eterm, gnome-terminal, kvt, konsole, nxterm,
xiterm) and found two facts:
1) they all describe themselves as `xterm' or `xterm-color' (via $TERM
   variable)
2) they emit different escape sequeces for the same keys.

Besides, some of them may be reconfigured (e.g. xterm VT100.Translation
resource or Eterm's ./configure --with-backspace=del
--with-delete=execute etc.).

It's a mess and I know too little terminfo/termcap to sort it out :(

(Not to mention that I still cannot make ncurses output correct
attributes and ACS characters...)
