Hi,
I moved all my mailboxes to Maildir format, hoping to solve a problem
I had -- when new mail arrived in the folder that you have currently
open, it's not indicated with an "N" in the folder browser. I thought
that it's a quirk of the mbox format, but found out that the same
happens with Maildir, although here it's really trivial to detect that
there's new mail, whether the mailbox is open or not!
Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it? (Programming tips
would be welcome too, I know my way around C.) I'm now worse off than
before -- with mbox at least I could see that the file size has
changed, and thus know that a mail had been dropped there, but now all
I see is "1024" which is the size of the directory.
I also hoped that Maildir would shorten the initial scanning time when
you open a large mailbox, but scanning a Maildir takes pretty much a
lot, too. :-( Just what is the advantage of Maildir? Is it only good
for NFS mail-reading because it doesn't require locking, but that's
it? Is there a format that supports a TOC which would allow me to open
a mailbox with a couple thousand messages without waiting for 15 odd
seconds?
