I suspect the problem is there. :-) You may want to look into something
like MasqMail (or sSTMP, or nullmailer). Assuming you have just a
dialup link, one of those ought to suit your needs better, and also
allow for the desired level of masquerading. Not that I've ever used
any of them myself... You should be able find all three by searching on
Freshmeat.
