No, using $reverse_name is right.  I bet you're using "my_hdr From:"?
Because $reverse_name doesn't work with that.  You need to choose one
or another.  Or, change over to the developement versions (1.1.x) of
Mutt which have a nice $from variable that works with $reverse_name.

That's the envelope sender, or put other way, the address where any
bounces will come back to (undeliverable email).  Although Sender: is
different, but apparently your MTA is setting that to the envelope
sender.

Well it's not a bug as such.  Mutt 1.0 doesn't support as an explicit
feature setting the envelope sender; however you can specify the
$sendmail variable to whatever you want, so you can set it like that
("set sendmail=sendmail -fsender@address").

Again, in the developement versions there's a variable, I forget which,
that sets the envelope sender to your current From: address (IIRC).
