Mutt doesn't do incoming mail filtering (sorting) into different mail
folders; the idea is to use an external program for that, such as
procmail or maildrop. It's a tribute to Mutt's versatility that you
can actually get some sort of automatic mail processing to do
"filtering" by using folder-hooks and such, but the end result is
still not too good. It's far better to use either of the programs
I mentioned above.

This is "correct", but it may not do what you thought it does.
save-hooks are a method for specifying a default save folder for
messages which have been (usually) *read* already, and when you want
to save them -- as opposed to messages which are deleted after reading,
or possibly, left in the folder for later reading.
