I use par with Mutt's filter-entry function from the compose
menu. Using a macro like this
macro compose v "F par -gqr 70<enter> y"
will format the entire message/attachment to a line length of 70
characters - and leave the headers alone. It's ability with formatting
quotes was already mentioned.
