That sort of thing - it's not specific to mutt at all - really annoys
me. Sometimes I wonder whether life would be easier if the escape
character weren't represented by escaping the escape character itself.
For example, if '\' were to be represented by "\e", say, then things
would get linearly rather than exponentially disgusting as you go
backwards through multiple layers of quoting and escaping ...

Sorry for the off-topic ramble.
