This came up a while ago, when some person tried to come to mutt's
defense after seeing the animated puppy on some web page out there :-)
The general conclusion was that nobody knew from whence it came and
that it was probably safe to use; my inclination would be to put a
note in the manual declaring the wish to properly acknowledge the
copyright if the author could ever be found and *then* go ahead and
use it.
