Most xterm's generate "ESC-p" when you give the ALT-P key sequence.  So
you should bind to that.

That being said, I must say that, while this probably works for a lot of
people, it has never worked for me, and I really don't know why.  It
works in some programs, but not Mutt.  I suspect SLang may have
something to do with it.
