try, from the command line:
mutt -f '{ncar.ucar.edu}inbox'
Assuming that the name of your imap machine. If this doesn't work, then
try:
mutt -d 2 -f '{ncar.ucar.edu}inbox'
And look in the file ~/.muttdebug0 and see what it says.
