I've taken a closer look, and I believe this issue only affects $signature and the source command. I've just pushed a fix turning off relative expansion for those cases when the value ends with a pipe.
Please let me know if you encounter any more issues. I had hoped to include this relative path fix, but if there are too many issues I am open to reverting (and probably reverting the :cd command too).
