 TBH adding a config option for this just makes it more complex, adding
 additional code that is, for my money, completely unnecessary.  I get
 that this provides some small benefit to Debian users, in that it
 provides a uniform way to configure all mail apps; but I think
 platform-specific changes belong in the platform, not in the upstream
 platform-neutral code base.

 But, like I said, my objection isn't a very strong one...  and if
 other platforms benefit from having something like this via
 configurable option, like antonio suggest, that lessens my objection
 further still... provided the code to support them is the same. :)

 I'd like to hear what other contributors think.
