Still an issue in version 1.7.1 (running on macOS 10.12.1). Tried emoji in
`status_chars` (eg. 📩 "envelope with arrow", Unicode: U+1F4E9, UTF-8: F0
9F 93 A9) and emdash (U+2014). Either of those messes up the status line.
Sticking emdash in `status_format` works, at least.
