 Have you tried posting to mutt-users?  Although there might be a bug in
 mutt, it seems unlikely for this case.  There are several users from
 Germany who may be able to suggest things to try.

 Mutt uses iconv to perform character set conversion, so the very first
 thing I would check is if it was compiled with iconv.  "mutt -v" should
 report +HAVE_ICONV.

 The next thing I'd check is that you haven't set anything in your muttrc
 having to do with character sets.  In general you don't want to try to set
 this yourself.  You may want to try a minimal muttrc to test with: just
 enough to access the message in question.

 The last thing I'd check is whether the text is representable in ISO
 8859-15.  Is it the entire message, or only certain parts that are
 scrambled?  Is it all UTF-8 messages?
