#3649: Sorting by 'To: ' does not work right -----------------------+---------------------- Reporter: grarpamp | Owner: mutt-dev Type: defect | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: 1.6 Component: mutt | Version: 1.5.21 Resolution: | Keywords: sorting -----------------------+----------------------
Comment (by grarpamp): > Many users (including me) have various e-mail addresses. Sorting by e-mail address would not work well, unless some more general form of alternates is added. No one suggested removing or changing the current behavior, so it will work fine, just add the new sorting methods, those who need them can select in gui and/or add them as default to muttrc. Users with "various" different email addresses (whether or not all their GECOS are the same) probably need to be able to define "sort_group = me[n], n=1,2,..., me is arbitrary label" context lists of such addresses in muttrc, so that any sort by the current/modified (from/to) will group them all together in one index location. Since the primary sort order there is current/modified (from/to), the muttrc "sort_group" definitions should then include "sort_aux" capabilities from all available subsort methods... date, recv, subj, thread, unsort, size, score, spam, current/modified (from/to), etc. -- Ticket URL: <https://dev.mutt.org/trac/ticket/3649#comment:4> Mutt <http://www.mutt.org/> The Mutt mail user agent
