 It's actually nearly inconceivable that a host which is so badly broken
 that its hostname does not properly forward and reverse resolve will work
 at all.  Most modern desktop environments will fail to start if that is
 the case, since they use the hostname and hostname resolution for all
 sorts of things, including binding sockets, and (annoyingly) determining
 what configuration to parse.  Thus on a modern system where the user is
 using X, this should always work, or fail long before the user ever gets
 to run Mutt.
