Greetings, After reading more about http://notmuchmail.org I got inspired to figure out how to use a full text search engine with Mutt. I wrote a patch which allows the use of a new pattern match, "~q STR" which allows the user to query external search engines in addition to using the stock patterns. As a proof of concept, there is also a wrapper around mairix for use with this patch.
Note: this only works with Maildir, and possibly MH (though I have not tested it). http://sigpipe.org/mutt/external-search/ me
