It turned out they're created by preprocessor magic from Sun's /usr/include/curses.h Unfortunately, this also happens when I compile mutt out of the pkgsrc system (http://www.pkgsrc.org); where I wanted to use slang or ncurses. I suspect the ncurses/ncrusesw/slang detection doesn't work on my system.
