Thomas, did you have something else in mind? Any thoughts from any quarters on an alternate syntax? Part of what I like about the fmtpipe approach is that it doesn't complicate escaping rules with an extra parse. Mutt's escaping rules are pretty hairy, more difficult even than sh's. -- -D.
